 Q.  I don’t have a library card? How do I join the library?
 A.  Just come to our membership desk and fill in an application form. Details of identification required can be found on our membership page.

 Q.  How old does my child have to be before they can have their own library card?
 A.  They can join the library as soon as they are born and are given a name. We encourage
you to read to your baby and to make library visits a part of their routine

 Q.  I have changed my address - how do I notify the library?
 A. Please tell us next time you are in the library and we will ask you to complete a change of address form.

 Q.  How many items can I have on my card?
 A. The limit is 35 items on your card at one time. If you are a new member and don’t have identification, you may take two items only.

 Q.  What happens if I have forgotten to bring my library card?
 A. We cannot issue books without your card, but will hold them for you for up to a week. Another option is to have a replacement card made, which costs $2.00 and cancels your old card.

 Q.  Can other family members use my card?
 A. With your agreement they can use your card, but we advise caution, as you are responsible for all items issued. Please note that books for adult use cannot be issued on a junior card, and junior books issued on an adult card will be charged at adult overdue rates.

 Q.  I have lost my old card – how do I get a new one?
 A. Come to the membership desk with some personal identification and we can make you a new card. There is a $2.00 charge for a replacement card and it cancels your old one. If you lose your card, or it is stolen, please let us know as soon as possible, so that we can put a block on your card.

 Q.  Do you have a special card for teachers?
 A.  Yes, teachers can apply for two cards – one for their own personal use and a teacher’s card for borrowing classroom resources. A teacher’s card will entitle you to borrow extra items and to keep them for a slightly longer time. We welcome visits from classes and pre-schools. Just phone to arrange a time.

 Q.  I’m still reading my books – can I keep them longer?
 A. Yes, you can renew them, up to three times, as long as they haven’t been reserved by another borrower. You can either call into the library (please bring your card), phone us during opening hours, or renew them online. You will need to arrange a PIN number to do this. If you are renewing a charge item, you will have to pay another rental charge.

 Q.  I have tried to renew books on your website and find I need a PIN number – how do I get one?
 A. Please call into the library to arrange a PIN number. You will be asked to choose a 5 digit number.

 Q.  What happens if I lose or damage a library item?
 A. In both cases, the cost of replacement for the item will be charged to your borrower record and an account posted out.

 Q.  I lost a book and had to pay for it. I have now found it – can I get a refund?
 A. When you lose a book you are charged for the cost of the book. If you find an item you have already paid for, please return it and the council will post you a refund.

 Q.  I have a book with loose/ripped pages. What should I do?
 A. Please don’t try to fix it yourself. We have special glues and tapes to repair books, so just tell us when you return the book.

 Q.  Do you have videos and DVDs?
 A. Yes, we have both adult and children’s titles. There is a rental on adult items (see next answer).

 Q.  How much do the videos and DVDs cost, and how long can I keep them for?
 A. Adult videos and DVDs are $2.00 per issue (sets $5.00). Children’s titles are free. All video’s and DVDs are issued for 7 days.

 Q.  Do you have CDs and CD Roms?
 A. We do have children’s CDs (mainly stories) and CD ROMs, but no adult ones at this stage, unless they come as part of a book and disc set.

 Q.  When I look for books in the catalogue, I can never find them. Why is that?
 A. Please ask the staff for help. Often people stop at the book information screen, without clicking on the view copy information link. This link tells you where to find the book – for example, large print, stack, junior library, etc.

 Q.  When the catalogue says stack, what does that mean?
 A. Stack is a storage area upstairs. Staff are happy to retrieve these items for you.

 Q.  Do you have a storytime session for pre-schoolers?
 A. Yes, on Thursday mornings from 10:30. This is informal – they are welcome to participate for as long (or as short) a time as their concentration allows.
